How To Use The Adamantine Forge In Baldurs Gate 3

Finding and mastering the Adamantine Forge in Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the most rewarding challenges in the Underdark region. Located deep within Grymforge, this ancient mechanical structure allows players to craft exceptionally strong weapons, armor, and shields that resist critical hits. Operating the forge requires specific materials, careful step-by-step preparation, and a strategic battle against a formidable guardian construct.
Gathering Necessary Materials and Moulds
Before initiating the forge mechanism, players must collect two primary components: Mithral Ore and a specific equipment mould. There are only two deposits of Mithral Ore in the vicinity, meaning you can craft a maximum of two items per playthrough. Additionally, six distinct moulds are scattered across Grymforge, covering options like scale mail, splint armor, shields, and various weapons.
Preparing the Forge Mechanism
Once you reach the massive circular platform, insert your chosen mould into the Mould Chamber near the center. Next, place a piece of Mithral Ore directly into the central Crucible. After both items are positioned correctly, pull the nearby Forge Lever to drop the massive central hammer and lower the platform into the lower chamber.
Managing the Lava Valve and Construct Battle
Turning the Lava Valve on the eastern side floods the floor channels with molten lava, which is necessary to soften the ore for crafting. If this is your first time using the machine, flooding the forge will trigger a boss encounter with Grym, the legendary guardian construct. Players must keep Grym standing in the lava so it becomes superheated, making it vulnerable to the massive damage of the central forge hammer.
Finalizing Crafting and Ejecting Items
After defeating Grym or during subsequent uses, pull the Forge Lever once more to strike the Crucible with the hammer and finish your item. Collect your newly crafted adamantine equipment directly from the Mould Chamber once the process completes. Finally, hit the Mould Ejection Lever to retrieve your mould and press the reset button next to the main lever to raise the platform back up.
